Every year on October 1st, Guatemala celebrates Día del Niño—Children’s Day. It’s a joyful holiday dedicated to honoring the youngest members of society and recognizing the importance of protecting their rights, nurturing their growth, and celebrating their creativity. Across the country, schools, families, and communities come together to remind children how valued and cherished they are.
At the Escuela Comunitaria David LaMotte, this celebration is one of the most anticipated days of the year. Teachers and parents work together to create a day filled with laughter, games, music, and special treats. It’s more than just a party—it’s an opportunity to affirm each child’s dignity and worth, while also strengthening the bonds of community.
This year’s celebration at the school included playful activities, performances, and lots of smiles. Students enjoyed songs, dances, and traditional games that connected them to both their culture and one another. The classrooms and schoolyard were decorated with balloons and streamers, transforming the space into a bright and festive setting. Each child received a small gift—something tangible to remind them they are seen and appreciated.

As we reflect on Children’s Day, we are grateful for the community of donors, friends, and partners who make these moments possible. Every smile at the David LaMotte School is a reminder of the power of accompaniment—the belief that walking alongside children and their families opens pathways of opportunity and hope.
Because every child deserves to be celebrated. Every child deserves a chance to learn, to play, and to dream.
