Since 2016, Senderos has had the joy of partnering with Mars Hill University through a meaningful and growing connection with the Chaplain’s Office. What began as a single trip has evolved into a deep, ongoing relationship rooted in learning, service, and community.

Over the past nine years, Mars Hill has taken seven trips to Guatemala, bringing students and faculty together with Senderos’ local partners. These “learning journeys” are immersive experiences that open hearts and broaden perspectives. Each journey is an opportunity for mutual exchange, as students from North Carolina step into the lives of Guatemalan families, schools, and communities, learning just as much as they give.

Whether working alongside teachers in a village school, helping with construction projects, or sharing meals and music with local families, Mars Hill students return home transformed. They gain a new understanding of global inequity and a deeper sense of connection to a broader human family. And for Senderos, the relationship with MHU is a flagship example of our work in partnership: a steady, long-term commitment to learning and walking together across cultures.
As we look back on nearly a decade of shared journeys, we give thanks for the Mars Hill students and staff who have walked this path with us. And we look forward to many more stories, friendships, and memories still to come.
