Join us for a concert and party on Saturday, April 25 to celebrate David LaMotte’s birthday and raise important funds for Senderos, the organization that he and Deanna, his wife, started on their honeymoon 22 years ago. David, a renowned musician, author, and speaker that has performed over 3500 concerts, will be joined by the world-class Ugandan musician Chinobay and internationally known cellist Stephanie Winters.
Chinobay shares the vibrant rhythms and melodies of Africa, bridges global cultures through music, and spreads a message of harmony through education and songwriting. David and Chinobay recently performed together at the Uganda National Theatre in Kampala. They have now written two multilingual songs together.
Stephanie has just returned to the US after touring Europe with Suzanne Vega, and she’s joining us at the White Horse! She has been featured on several of David’s records, and it’s always fun when the two can be in the same town. The combination of all three musicians promises to be a delight. She has performed over 3,000 concerts across the globe, including at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
The concert will be one of the first back at the White Horse, after a construction issue caused the venue to temporarily relocate to the Monte Vista hotel. Tickets are $25 each and include a birthday cupcake and fantastic music by David and Chinobay. Non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks are available to purchase. Doors open at 6:30, and the concert starts at 7:30.
Thank you to our sponsors for making this event possible and ensuring that all the funds raised can go directly to Senderos’ work in Guatemala: Chris and Sue DiLandro, Kathy and Kenny Phillips, Carol Bornstein Consulting, and Betty Doll.
All proceeds from the event will directly benefit programs for youth in Guatemala that Senderos supports:
El Tejar Music Program: This extraordinary project serves more than 150 students of all ages. They can learn marimba, cello, guitar, maracas, bass, keyboard and more. Senderos’ funds help support music instruction, instrument rental, maintenance, recitals, and this year, also supports university scholarships for two outstanding graduates to pursue university degrees in music.
Escuela Comunitaria David LaMotte: Begun in by Nino Tecun, and supported by David and Deanna since its very early days. Students from the local community attend pre-K through third grade, learn the local traditional Mayan language, Tz’utujil, and receive a healthy lunch every day.
Brillaguate: This program provides academic tutoring, mentoring and job training opportunities for middle and high school students. In 2015, a local teacher set out to support a number of young women who were doing menial jobs, like collecting recyclable items in exchange for pennies, instead of attending school. After a few years of providing necessary support to a small group of girls to get through high school, the Brillaguate program added a boys’ group as well. Several students in the Brillaguate program have graduated near the top of their classes.
Please join us on April 25 to support these programs, enjoy some great music, and celebrate David’s birthday!
