Raise your hand if you’re retired, will soon be, or wanna be!
My hand is up, too.

Shortly after my husband, Rod, and I retired, we moved to Western North Carolina. And it wasn’t long after we got settled that I began wondering — what am I going to do for my second act?
As fate would have it, we met David LaMotte through his singing gigs and learned about Senderos. Then we heard that he and the Executive Director of Senderos, Sarah Robinson, were taking a group to Guatemala. It wasn’t going to be a mission trip, but rather a discovery trip. Sounded interesting. We were going for 10 days to experience the Guatemalan landscape and culture and see what Senderos was all about.
We signed up and the experience changed my life. For the better.
I saw first-hand how I can be part of a group that, together with the local community, offers truly free schooling to beautiful Mayan children, tutoring and mentoring to teens, and fresh pathways though music to teens and young adults.
While there, a light bulb came on for me. My Act 2 mission is to support the education of girls and young women. Yep, just that simple. But what was I going to do about it?!?

For starters, we got involved with Senderos fundraising efforts. We now give at least annually and, together, Rod and I are on the Board. I love spreading the Senderos message of working with the Guatemalan community leaders -– when we listen to what they need, we can better respond to those needs. And it is life-changing for me to see young lives changed for the better.
Please join us by giving monthly or annually. Join our Executive Director Sarah Robinson and founder David LaMotte on the Senderos discovery trip in June. See the difference first-hand. It very well may change your life. Just like it did mine.
