A Heart for Senderos

June 23, 2026 by Jamye Davis Subscribe for Updates

Our current Board Secretary, Julie Liptak, joined the first open trip to Guatemala with Senderos in July 2018. Having (mostly) raised her three sons while looking at the winddown of her career as a global Human Resources leader working within large multinational corporations, there was space in her life for more fulfilling connections and projects. She and her husband John decided to trust their hearts and journey to Guatemala, not knowing what to expect, and certainly not anticipating how their lives and hearts would be opened.

Julie was naive to so much of the history of Guatemala so the trip was an opportunity to understand that more deeply, but the real impact of the trip was seeing up close and in person how the programs Senderos supports impact the kids’ lives in truly meaningful ways. From hearing the voices of the children in the Music Program to meeting the mothers of the young women in the Brillaguate program to reading with the kids at the Escuelita David LaMotte, her heart was opened to see all the potential that exists to truly change lives through their financial commitment to Senderos

Julie and John immediately began to financially support the organization and joined the Board in January 2022. Her 30+ years of corporate experience provided an opportunity to diversify the Board’s thinking about organizational structure and process, but she never forgets to always consider the real and substantial impacts on the lives of these deserving children.
