On Saturday, April 5, David LaMotte, Kat Williams, and David Wilcox will perform in a benefit concert for Senderos. All proceeds from the event will benefit the programs that Senderos supports in Guatemala. Enjoy handmade crafts from Guatemala, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, amazing music, and complimentary Guatemalan finger foods. The suggested ticket price is $30, and you can purchase tickets at the door or in advance (though we suggest advance purchase, as the event may well sell out). Doors open at 6:00, and the show starts at 7:00.
A highlight of the evening will be a performance by students in the El Tejar Music Program via live video feed. The students in that program learn to play a variety of instruments, including marimba, mandolin, violin, keyboard, recorder, and guitar. The program provides weekly instruction to around 87 students each year.
The El Tejar Music Program began in 2007, and has been cooperatively funded by Senderos and LEAF Global since it began. When the teen music program grew, it became clear that the students needed a larger space to rehearse, store instruments, and perform. The program matters a great deal to the kids who study there, and their families wanted to help. Parents began bringing whatever building supplies they could find, sometimes a bag of cement or a cinderblock, to help make a new space a reality. Now in a beautiful instruction space, the program continues to flourish.
Since 2012, music students have come to the US four times to perform at LEAF (Lake Eden Arts Festival) in Black Mountain. While here, they also teach in local schools as Artists in Residence. The Guatemalan and the American students learn from each other in a rich cross-cultural experience.

Even if it were not for the good cause, though, you wouldn’t want to miss this show! Kat Williams’ musical talent spans Motown, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop, and Gospel. David Wilcox is a preeminent singer/songwriter, with songs that heal and inspire. Acclaimed musician, author, and speaker David LaMotte is also a co-founder of Senderos, which has now been working in Guatemala for over twenty years.
Come enjoy fantastic music for a great cause! We hope to see you April 5!
