School supply drive kicks off!

August 4, 2025 by Jamye Davis Subscribe for Updates

“Sarah and I have just returned from Guatemala on our annual ‘open’ trip, and we are feeling re-inspired by seeing the difference Senderos is making firsthand, and spending some rich time with our Guatemalan friends”, said David LaMotte, founder of Senderos. “If you’d like to join us next year, we will be heading back July 19-29, 2026.”

But the big news today is that we are kicking off our Back-to-School Fundraiser! This is a chance to empower students in Guatemala with the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed. We hope you will help us support the 114 elementary students at Escuela Communitaria David LaMotte and 21 middle and high school students in the Brillaguate program. Our goal is to ensure that every young person in our programs has access to quality education, school supplies, and the support systems that ignite their potential.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Purchase school supplies here in the US while they are discounted in local stores and drop them off with us to transport them to Guatemala.
For WNC donations, email Jamye Davis to arrange drop-off.
For South Carolina and Roanoke, VA, email Sarah Robinson to arrange drop-off.
  2. Purchase school supplies from our Amazon Wish List and they will automatically ship to Sarah who will take them to Guatemala in September! It’s an easy way to help!
  3. Purchase Spanish language books – new or used – and send them to us:
Senderos Guatemala C/O David LaMotte, 301 Assembly Dr., Montreat, NC 28757
  4. Donate any amount of money to support the new 3rd grade classroom at Escuela David LaMotte. We are looking to raise $3,200 to purchase locally made tables, chairs, bookshelves, and shelving for materials.
  5. Hold a donation drive to collect school supplies – download the DIY Supply Drive packet with all the info you need to make it happen! And see our webpage for even more info and tips for a successful drive.
  6. Spread the Word: Share this email and fundraiser with your friends, family, and networks to multiply our impact. Also, please follow Senderos on Facebook and Instagram to share our posts and tag @SenderosGuatemala when posting about your supply drive.

We will ensure that all donations collected will make their way to Guatemala to support the upcoming school year which begins in January, 2026.

As the new school year approaches, we are thinking a lot about the incredible opportunities education brings to Guatemalan children and their communities. The crew at Senderos is committed to supporting our partners as they work to create brighter futures for youth and families in Guatemala.

And your support makes it all possible.

Your generosity creates pathways for learning, growth, and resilience in the lives of these children. Together, we can break down barriers to education and create pathways to possibility.

Thank you for believing in the power of education and for standing with us in this important mission. And please keep an eye out for updates on our progress and stories of impact throughout the campaign!
