Rooted in Partnership

January 3, 2026 by Jamye Davis Subscribe for Updates

From the very beginning, the work of Senderos has been rooted in partnership. It was even part of our original name, PEG Partners.

David LaMotte, founder of Senderos, and Nino Tecun, Founder of Escuela David LaMotte in conversation.

Programs in Guatemala have grown out of relationships built patiently, with care and intention. Program Directors are deeply connected to their communities and understand both the needs and the limits present in daily life. Decisions emerge through conversation, listening, and shared responsibility. It’s not a quick fix, but it’s a lasting relationship.

Senderos supports this process by staying close, asking thoughtful questions, and helping align resources with what is already unfolding on the ground.

Some partnerships have been part of this story for many years. Since 2016, Mars Hill University has walked alongside Senderos through student engagement, travel, and long-term commitment to community-led work in Guatemala.

Faculty and students return home changed by what they have learned, and their continued involvement has strengthened programs that rely on consistency rather than short-term involvement.

The Rotary Club of Asheville has also been a meaningful partner, supporting education and community development through their shared belief in service and global connection. Their support has helped expand opportunities in ways that respect local leadership and long-term vision, reinforcing work that grows steadily over time.

Strong partnerships require consistency. They are sustained through regular communication, trust built over years, and a willingness to sit with uncertainty when answers are not immediate. There are moments that call for careful financial planning, moments that require slowing down, and moments that ask for honesty about what can and cannot be done. Because the relationships are real, they can hold those moments without breaking.

Partnership also connects Guatemala with a wider community of support. Donors, churches, schools, and individuals choose to invest in work they may only see from a distance.  That commitment makes it possible for students in Guatemala to remain in school, for the music program to continue, and for community-led education to expand at a pace that is healthy and sustainable.

What ties all of this together is mutual respect. Each partner brings knowledge, effort, and care that shapes the whole. Progress is rarely fast, and it is often quiet, but it is steady when people remain connected to one another and to the communities at the center of the work.

We are grateful for those who walk alongside Senderos with patience and trust. Your partnership is part of every classroom, every lesson, and every opportunity made possible through this shared work.

In addition to partnering individually, we hope you’ll consider your service organization, school, or church group partnering with Senderos to further our impacts in Guatemala. Contact Sarah Robinson at sarah@senderosguatemala.org to discuss your ideas.
